Talking about the asafetida to be eaten across the country, the yield of Ratti is not in India. But asafetida is exported to Gulf Country. The very good news is that now asafetida will be produced in the country.
After three years of research, the Institute of Himalayan Birali Technology (IHBT), located in Palampur, Himachal Pradesh, has achieved this success. Every year a raw material worth Rs 600 crore in the country is purchased from other countries to make asafoetida. There are about 60 units of processing asafetida in Hathras (Hathras0 Hathras0 in UP.
The country got such a big success
Institute of Himalayan Biorisource Director of Technology, Dr. Sanjay Singh told News18 Hindi, “Raw goods come from Iran, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan to make asafoetida. Raw material of 600 crores is purchased in a year. But from this year, Himachal Pradesh will start planting asafetida plant. This plant is planted in our lab.
We have been doing research on this with the Agricultural Ministry for three years. We have got success in this research. After Himachal, this plant will also be planted in Jammu and Kashmir and Uttarakhand. This plant needs cool and dry weather. This plant is ready in 5 years. However, if someone has tried to plant a plant without any technical help earlier, then the matter is different. Otherwise, according to the record, this is the first time we are going to plant ”.

Asafoetida is made from raw materials coming from abroad
Shyam Prasad, a resident of Hathras and asafoetida, says, resine (milk) comes from Iran, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. This milk comes out from a plant. Earlier traders used to bring milk directly to Hathras. But now Khari Babli area of Delhi has become a big market. But the process of process is still done in Hathras. 15 big and 45 small units are doing this work. Olio-gum resin (milk) is processed from the plant with maida. Some units have also opened in Kanpur too. Apart from the asafetida country in the country, there is export in Gulf country Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain etc.

Shubham Bansal, the asafetida businessman of Hathras, says, “Even after such a long time, we are still dependent on other countries for the raw material of asafetida. Due to which the asafetida is one of the expensive spices. Yes, once, once before, there was an attempt to extract milk in Himachal Pradesh.
