BSP is expected to get political benefit from the increased distance between Congress and SP in the assembly elections in Haryana and Maharashtra and by-elections in UP. The party is keeping an eye on the rapidly changing political developments. If talks do not work out between Congress and SP, then BSP may become a part of the third front formed due to this. According to experts, at present the party needs this to save its existence and maintain its relevance in the country’s politics.
In fact, if we look at the history of BSP, it had got majority in the 2007 UP Assembly elections. Earlier, BSP kept forming the government with the help of other parties, the benefit of which it got in the Lok Sabha elections also. In the year 2012, BSP again decided to contest the elections alone, which proved wrong. The same situation happened in the 2017 assembly elections also.
In the year 2019, BSP contested the Lok Sabha elections in alliance with SP and became a party with 10 MPs. However, after this, it faced huge losses due to fighting the 2022 Assembly elections and 2024 Lok Sabha elections alone. Now the party’s hopes are pinned on forming a third front.
