A new and shocking face of crime has emerged in religious city Rishikesh. Late night, police raided Hotel Navrang located in IDPL outpost area and busted an illegal casino. The special thing is that this casino was caught on the same night when not even a day had passed since it started.
According to Kotwal Kailash Chandra Bhatt, late in the night an informer informed the police about suspicious activities in Hotel Navrang. As soon as the information was received, CO Neeraj Semwal sent the police team towards the hotel without any delay. The team first surrounded the hotel from all sides and then raided inside.
Police caught 35 people
When the police reached inside the hotel, there was a stampede among the people present there. Many people started trying to escape, but due to the strong police cordon, not a single person could escape from there. A total of 35 people were detained on the spot, including about 10 female dancers.
The opening took place only on 27th March.
Investigation revealed that this illegal casino had started on March 27 itself, i.e. just a day before the raid. The name of Ashok Thapa, resident of Gumaniwala Shyampur, has come to light behind this, who was running this business under the guise of Nepali theme. Female dancers were specially called to attract the customers coming to the casino and to create an atmosphere. A huge crowd had gathered on the very first night.
Fake notes were also found, the game was going on online also
Police have seized about 20 thousand coins, 60 thousand rupees in cash, 6 bottles of liquor, fake notes of 20 rupees and a large number of decks of cards from the spot. It was told that the casino was running not only on cash but also through online money transactions. Every effort was made to avoid detection by transacting money through digital medium. The recovery of fake notes has made the matter more serious.
People of Delhi and public representatives were also present
Locals were not the only ones among the 35 people arrested. According to the information, these include people from Delhi and one or two public representatives. This is the reason why the police is considering this matter as very sensitive and is engaged in investigation. The hotel has been sealed with immediate effect.
SP keeping a close eye, preparing for big revelations
Police Captain Pramendra Dobal himself is keeping an eye on this entire matter. Police sources say that as the investigation progresses, many more names and faces may come to light. At present, the police is trying to find out to what extent the strings of this casino are connected and which big faces are behind it. This attempt to tarnish the image of Dharmanagari failed on the very first night due to the vigilance of the police.
