IND vs NZ Final rules reserve day: In view of the possibility of rain in the final of T20 World Cup 2026 between India and New Zealand, ICC has made strict rules. If the match cannot be held on March 8, then March 9 has been kept as reserve day. The special thing is that at least 10-over play is necessary for the result of the final. If the game is washed out on both days, both the teams will be declared joint winners.

Will a team become champion without even playing or will the trophy have to be shared?
New Delhi. The title match between India vs New Zealand is a big test not only for cricket fans but also for the ICC. More than one lakh spectators are expected to be present in the T20 World Cup final to be played on March 8 at the world’s largest Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. But, ‘Indra Devta’ often creates disturbance on the cricket field. In such a situation, the question arises that what will happen if rain hinders this great match? Will a team become champion without even playing or will the trophy have to be shared? Let us know about the ICC rules that have been made for the final of the T20 World Cup.
According to ICC rules, the first effort of the umpires will be to complete the match on the scheduled day. The available extra time will be used for this. If necessary, the umpire will try to get the result by reducing the number of overs. Umpires have been instructed to try to maximize play on Sunday as if there is no ‘reserve day’ available.

Mathematics of ‘Reserve Day’
If at least one over is not played on Sunday despite many efforts, then the match will be played on ‘Reserve Day’ on Monday, March 9. If there is some play on Sunday and then there is rain, then on Monday the match will start from the same place where the previous over or ball was bowled. If the toss has taken place on Sunday but not a single ball has been bowled, then the same toss will be valid on Monday and the teams will also remain the same.
How many overs are required?
To get a result in the group stage and Super-8 matches of the T20 World Cup, a game of at least 5 overs is necessary. But the rules are different for the final. For the official result in the final, it is mandatory for both the teams to get a chance to bat at least 10 overs each. If both the teams are not able to play 10 overs each on Monday, then the result will not be known.
Can India and New Zealand become ‘joint winners’?
This is the biggest suspense for the fans. If rain spoils the game on Sunday and the match is not possible on Monday (Reserve Day) also due to heavy rain, then as per ICC rules both the teams (India and New Zealand) will be declared joint winners. In such a situation the trophy will be shared between both the teams.
