New Delhi. The night of Wednesday, March 4, 2026 has been recorded in the name of ‘Finn Allen’ in cricket history. In the first semi-final of the T20 World Cup, New Zealand’s 26-year-old opener Finn Allen created a ruckus against South Africa, which forced every spectator present at Eden Gardens to clench their teeth. For the Kiwi team, which was chasing the target of 170 runs, Allen scored an unbeaten 100 runs in just 33 balls, due to which New Zealand won by 9 wickets and made it to the finals.
During this innings, Allen hit 8 skyscraper sixes. With the help of these 8 sixes, Finn Allen has taken his total number of sixes in this World Cup (2026) to 20. With this, he has become the first batsman in the world to make a record of hitting 20 sixes in a single edition of the T20 World Cup.
Earlier this record was in the name of Shimron Hetmyer of West Indies, who had hit 19 sixes in this World Cup (2026). At the same time, Nicholas Pooran (17 sixes, 2024) and Chris Gayle (16 sixes, 2012) are now left far behind in this list. Interestingly, Finn Allen will be seen in the jersey of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2026. By playing such an innings at his ‘home ground’ Eden Gardens just a few weeks before the start of IPL, he has given KKR fans a chance to celebrate.

Beat Gayle and Kohli
Finn Allen hit 10 fours and 8 sixes in his innings of 100 runs. He is now jointly in third place in terms of hitting most sixes in an innings of the T20 World Cup. Only Chris Gayle and Aaron Jones of USA are ahead of him. Also, Allen has become the first batsman in history to score a century in a knockout match of the T20 World Cup. He has touched a new peak by leaving behind the knockout scores of stalwarts like Virat Kohli (89 not out) and Tillakaratne Dilshan (96 not out).
Allen became ‘Kaal’ for South Africa
When South Africa scored 169 runs, it seemed that the competition would be tough. But Allen and his partner Tim Seifert (58) made the match one-sided by adding 84 runs in the powerplay itself. Allen scored the last 24 runs of his innings (from 76 to 100) in just 5 balls against Marco Janson. Now in the great match to be held on Sunday, the eyes of the whole world will again be on this young Kiwi sensation. Will this storm of Allen make New Zealand T20 World Champion for the first time?
