Shadab/Mandsaur. Independence Day was celebrated on Sunday by performing Durva Abhishek on the basis of Hindu calendar in the world famous Ashtamukhi Lord Pashupatinath Temple. During this, devotees performed special prayers and prayed for the prosperity and well-being of the country. Durva Abhishek is a unique tradition which has been going on for 38 years, Durva Abhishek started in the year 1985 which continues even after completion of 38 years.

Pandit Umesh Joshi, founder of ‘Astrology and Rituals Council’, an organization of priests and hosts in the temple of Ashta Mukhi Lord Pashupatinath, said that India got independence from the clutches of the British on August 15, 1947, when according to the Hindu calendar, the Krishna Paksha of Shravan month. It was Chaturdashi. Due to Shravan month being Krishna Chaturdashi on Sunday, as per tradition, along with celebrating the Independence Day by performing Durva Abhishek in Asht Mukhi Lord Pashupatinath Temple, the priests also offered prayers in the interest of India by offering prayers in the Asht Mukhi Lord Pashupatinath Temple.

Crowd gathers for darshan

During this, many devotees including the chief priest of Pashupatinath temple Kailash Chandra Bhatt, Pandit Surendra Acharya, Pandit Rakesh Bhatt, Pandit Shyam Pandya were present. Keeping in view the month of Sawan, a large number of visitors are reaching the world famous Ashta Mukhi Lord Pashupatinath temple every day. This time due to more months and two months of Sawan, enthusiasm is being seen among the devotees.

Eight faced Lord Pashupatinath
In Durva Abhishek, Independence Day is celebrated according to the Hindu calendar by doing special decoration of the idol of Lord Pashupatinath only in the temple of Asht Mukhi Lord Pashupatinath in the whole of India. During this period, a lot of enthusiasm is seen among the devotees. 2 to 3 quintals of Durva is used to decorate the idol and sanctum sanctorum. Besides, Gomti Chakra, green pumpkin seeds, green cardamom and mawa along with hemp are used in adornment. Shami leaves are also applied on sandalwood paste.
