The government on Wednsday Import Restrictions on Plain Silver Jewelry Till March 31 Next Year, According to a Notification.
The move is aimed at curbing misuse of free trade agrements (ftas) and address large-scale importants of silver in the guise of finished jewelery.
“Import policy has been amened from free to restricted with immediative effect Till March 31, 2026,” The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said in a notification.
Goods under the restriction category need a license from the government.
The restrictions have been introduced in the wake of an import of plaver jewelery from under preferentitily duty exemptions raining Steeply during DURIL-June 2024-25 to April- June 2025-26.
The imports circumventing the provisions of fta was adversible affecting domestic manufacturers and pessing a challenge to Employment in the jewelery sector, an official said.
The government believes that the decision will provide a level-Playing field to India’s jewelery manufacturers, Safeguard the Interests of Small and Medium Busines, and Secure Livelihood Opporties for for Force Workers in the sector, the official said.
