Coach Gautam Gambhir told when preparations will start for 2027 ODI World Cup

New Delhi. After winning the T20 World Cup 2026 trophy, Indian team head coach Gautam Gambhir will take a short break and then preparations will begin to win the next ICC title. The coach said that India will have the blueprint ready for the ODI World Cup 2027 by the end of the IPL 2026 season. Gambhir told that after the tournament the coaching staff will take rest for some time and then start preparing for the ODI World Cup.

Next year’s World Cup for India will be hosted by South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe. Bouncy pitches will be seen during the tournament. Gambhir said that the team management will identify players who are suitable for these conditions and will finalize their plans and strategy by the end of IPL 2026.

He told India Today, “Planning for the 2027 World Cup will start after the IPL. There will be 25 to 30 ODI matches between IPL 2026 and the World Cup. This format is not played much these days. The sooner we start planning, the better it will be for us.”

Gambhir further said, “Playing cricket in South Africa is not easy. We have to identify the right combination and players who are fit for the conditions there. The selectors and coaches will do this work. By the end of IPL 2026, India will have a blueprint ready for the ODI World Cup 2027.”

At the same time, a day after India’s T20 World Cup victory, Gambhir gave direct answers to all the questions related to the team’s atmosphere. The coach said, “My philosophy is very simple – if the majority of the team members are not happy with me, then there is no point in me being in that dressing room. If the majority is happy, then I am doing the right thing. If you report honestly, you will automatically get to know the atmosphere of the team. The atmosphere of the Indian team cannot be hidden from anyone because there is a lot of scrutiny, headlines and media attention.”

He further said, “All this is nonsense when it is said that the atmosphere of the team is not good. Neither I nor the captain need to say anything. If you follow us closely – from travelling, to practice sessions and interviews of players – then you will get an idea of the atmosphere of the team yourself.”
