
Shadab Chaudhary/Mandsaur: Preparations to bring cheetahs to Gandhi Sagar area, about 120 kilometers away from the district headquarters, have been completed. But before this, many types of animals are becoming resident in Gandhi Sagar area, due to which this place is proving to be a paradise. Steps are being taken by nature conservation authorities to control and conserve the problem. Traffic and control measures are also being considered to conserve and protect local natural life.
Due to the environment in Gandhi Sagar area, various types of animals are living comfortably. Surveys and statistics are confirming this. It has special importance due to its natural structure, climate, and suitability for wildlife life. Species like butterflies, crocodiles, and vultures reside here which are friendly to the environment. Special attention is being given to the conservation and management of natural resources here so that these natural life species can be preserved.
Wild animals are getting safe homes
After the construction of Gandhi Sagar Dam, the Madhya Pradesh government declared this area as a forest sanctuary of 368 square kilometers on 28 February 1984. This sanctuary is working to create a safe place for wild animals. Four species of vultures are found in Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary and along with this three species migrate to use this sanctuary in winter season. After Panna in Madhya Pradesh, the vulture count here was at second place with around 700 vultures.

Gujarati vultures liked the climate of Gandhi Sagar very much and some time ago, according to officials from Gujarat, these vultures had reached Gandhi Sagar from the forests of Gir after covering a distance of about 800 kilometers. In the Gir forests, collar IDs were put on the collars of vultures so that the forest department could track them. The forest department got information about the sighting of vultures breeding and after this the work of searching for those vultures was started which revealed that these vultures have settled in Gandhi Sagar itself.
It is also home to 246 species of birds.
According to the Forest Department, so far 246 species of birds have been detected during the survey in Gandhi Sagar. In the survey, about 80 participants and bird experts went out on 23 routes for 3 days and collected this data. The data received has been analyzed by wildlife and nature conservation organization “WNC Wildlife and Nature Conservation” Indore. Experts believe that the sanctuary area is suitable for the birds’ habitat and habitat, and the presence of the species indicates that signs of their life are present there.
The number of animals is increasing
Some time ago, butterfly experts from across the country launched a campaign to declare the butterfly as a national butterfly for butterfly conservation. In this campaign, on the basis of online survey, 7 butterflies were selected from the species found in the country. Three butterflies were liked the most, including the Common Jeezable species of butterfly found in Gandhi Sagar. Along with this, Orange Oakleaf and Krishna Peacock were included in the top three.
Gandhi Sagar Dam is also suitable for aquatic species. In the last few years, there has been an increase in the number of crocodiles here. At present, more than 5 thousand crocodiles are present in the reservoir.
