Sanju Samson said that he cannot believe that he has won the World Cup.
New Delhi. Sanju Samson, who played a key role in India’s T20 World Cup victory, said on Sunday that the country is ready to rule cricket for many years to come. On the occasion of BCCI Naman Awards 2026, Samson described India’s winning journey like a film and said that he still cannot believe it. When asked about last Sunday’s victory, Samson said, ‘Even now when I wake up in the morning, I think, has this really happened? To be honest, this is the feeling.
Sanju Samson said, ‘But I feel that considering the number of good players we have in our country, this victory will be repeated again and again in the coming years. With the number of new players coming in, India will now do this again and again. After his brilliant performance in the T20 World Cup 2026, Samson was adjudged the best player of the tournament.
He led India to the title by scoring 321 runs at a strike rate of around 200 in just five innings. Despite not getting a place in the team initially, he played brilliantly by scoring more than 80 runs in the important Super Eight match against West Indies, in the semi-final against England and in the final against New Zealand. Samson said that he was dreaming of making India win the World Cup. He said, ‘Of course, I think you dream where you want to go but it is not necessary that you can walk on that path. My life or career has been the best example of this. I wanted to do this a few years ago.
Sanju Samson said that he cannot believe that he has won the World Cup.
Samson said, ‘I wanted to win the World Cup for my country but it had its own plan, its own story. So it was a bit like a movie. I enjoyed it. This simple star from Kerala has worked hard for years to leave his mark in the game and the T20 World Cup was the best moment of his career. Samson said, ‘As I said earlier, I wanted to do something big, then I was removed from my trip and suddenly the team wanted me to come and contribute, then my thinking changed a bit. I think before that in the New Zealand series, my focus was only on myself. He said, ‘But in the World Cup, the entire focus was on the team. I thought about what the team needed and in the Zimbabwe match, from that moment everyone wanted me to contribute to the team. I had to play my role.
Then this change came and the confidence came that okay, the team needs you, Sanju, and let’s do what you can do best. This is where everything started.
