New Delhi. India vs New Zealand final is not only a battle for the supremacy of cricket but also a great match of ‘crores’. When Surya’s army and Mitchell Santner’s army will face each other in the match to be held on Sunday 8th March at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, their target will be the glittering trophy as well as ICC’s record breaking prize money. This year ICC has destroyed all the old records of prize money. While there will be a shower of money on the winning team, the runner-up will also not return empty handed. Let us know how many crores of rupees will come to the bag of the winning and losing teams in this historic final.
ICC has made a huge increase in prize money this year. Whichever team lifts the trophy in Ahmedabad, it will become rich. The team that wins the 2026 T20 World Cup will be given a prize money of 3 million dollars i.e. approximately 27.50 crores (in Indian Rupees). This amount is much more than the 2024 World Cup. Last time India got around Rs 20.4 crores for becoming champion, but this time ICC has increased the prize pool by 20%, due to which the winning team will get the biggest prize money till date.
The Indian team is adopting every trick to win the T20 World Cup trophy for the third time.
The losing team will also be ‘rich’
It is often said in cricket that the loser gets nothing, but this is not the case in ICC rules. The losing team (runner-up) in the final will also be given a huge amount. New Zealand or India, whichever team will be the runner-up, will get 1.6 million dollars i.e. approximately 14.67 crores. This amount has also increased significantly compared to last year.
Mega budget of Rs 123.77 crore
ICC has kept a total prize pool of 13.5 million dollars (about 123.77 crores) for this entire tournament. This money is being distributed among all the 20 teams participating in the tournament on the basis of their performance.
| Location/Stage | Prize money (in dollars) | Prize Money (Indian Rupees – Approx) |
|---|---|---|
| Champions | $3 Million | ₹27.50 crore |
| Runner-up | $1.6 Million | ₹14.67 crore |
| Losing teams in semi-finals | $790,000 (each) | ₹7.24 crore |
| Super 8 (5th to 12th place) | $380,000 (each) | ₹3.48 crore |
| Group Stage (13th to 20th place) | $250,000 (each) | ₹2.29 crore |
Why did the prize money increase so much?
The 2026 World Cup is being co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. The cricket market in India is the largest in the world, due to which ICC has earned record breaking earnings from broadcasting rights and sponsorship. A part of this bumper earning is being given to the players and teams as prize money.
