There is a relief news for the settlement of pending cases related to property tax in Delhi. Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh has announced that the property tax settlement scheme ‘Sunio’ has now been extended till March 31, 2026. He has appealed to all eligible property owners and occupiers to take full advantage of this opportunity and settle their outstanding taxes on time.
Complete exemption from interest and penalty, but last chance

No increase in late fee rate
Giving relief to the taxpayers, the Mayor said that there has been no increase in the rate of late fee. It has been kept the same as the rate of 5 percent applicable in the earlier extended period i.e. in the month of February. This will not impose additional financial burden on taxpayers.
More than 1.87 lakh taxpayers availed benefits
According to Municipal Corporation data, till March 1, 2026, 1,87,425 taxpayers have taken advantage of this scheme. A total property tax of Rs 1089.97 crore has been collected from these. Of these, Rs 211.44 crore was collected from 1,34,666 residential properties and Rs 878.52 crore was collected from 52,759 non-residential properties. This shows that the plan is getting widespread support.

On what conditions will full exemption be given?
Under ‘Sunio Scheme’, complete waiver of interest and penalty on property tax liability before the financial year 2020-21 is being given. The condition for this is that the taxpayer should deposit the basic property tax for the current financial year 2025-26 and the last five financial years i.e. from 2020-21 to 2024-25 without interest and penalty.
Large participation of first time tax payers
Under this scheme, 1,02,201 new taxpayers have paid property tax for the first time. Rs 395.96 crore has been collected from these first time taxpayers. This indicates that the scheme has played an important role in bringing new taxpayers also into the tax net.
Record collection in the current financial year
In the current financial year till March 1, 2026, a total tax of Rs 2893.86 crore has been collected from 12,78,445 taxpayers including the ‘Sunio’ scheme. In the same period last year, Rs 1937.44 crore was collected from 10,56,528 taxpayers. This shows an increase of 49.37 percent in tax collection and 21 percent increase in the number of taxpayers.
Better performance than last year
In the financial year 2024-25, a total of Rs 2132.29 crore was collected from 11,33,161 taxpayers. The collection so far in the current financial year is much more than this figure. It is clear from this that ‘Sunio’ scheme has played an important role in increasing revenue and improving tax compliance.
