The scattered data of government land and buildings in the capital is now being brought on a unified digital platform. Delhi government has registered about 14 thousand of its immovable properties in a new asset management system, which is being considered a big step towards better utilization of land resources.
Properties of about 50 departments have been added to this digital list. These also include major land ownership agencies like MCD, DUSIB (Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board), PWD and Delhi Jal Board. According to officials, details of land and buildings of all these institutions are now being made available on a single platform.
Government data captures not only buildings in use, but also vacant land and leased properties. According to a senior official, the nature of the properties is different. Some are developed buildings and some are open plots. This comprehensive list will give a clear picture of the real situation.
It will be easy to find land for school, hospital and park
The government believes that this new system will prove helpful in expanding civic facilities. Land for developing schools, hospitals, parks and other public structures will now be identified in a more systematic manner. Earlier, finding suitable land consumed both time and resources due to scattered records in different departments.
Will get freedom from scattered and old data
Till now different departments used to maintain records of their respective properties separately. This made the information fragmented, unorganized and sometimes out of date. It remained challenging to obtain integrated information on ownership, current usage and actual status. The new digital system has been developed with the aim of removing this shortcoming.
Monitoring will be done through GIS technology and satellite mapping
The new system has been designed as ‘Delhi Asset Management Information System’, which will work like a centralized and GIS based digital repository. In this, land mapping can be done through high-resolution satellite imagery. It will also be easier to monitor assets and generate reports with the help of dashboards and analytical tools. Departments will be able to generate customized reports by entering details of their plots.
Instructions to update data in 20 days
Last month, the Chief Secretary had directed all departments to enter complete details of their properties in the system within 20 days and submit the same in the form of a certificate. It is clear from this strictness that the government is giving priority to this project and is committed to bringing transparency in land management.
