Delhi News: Poisonous game exposed before festivals, expired goods worth lakhs of rupees seized

The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has busted a big racket of expired and tampered food items and cosmetic items. Police have seized a large quantity of expired and repackaged products. If this material had reached the market, the health of thousands of people could have been seriously affected.

In this case, the police has arrested the second accused, 38-year-old Akram Ansari. Earlier, an accused named Omprakash Sharma was arrested. Based on the information received during interrogation, the Crime Branch team raided Rastogi Compound in Shaheed Nagar located on the Delhi-UP border. A large number of expired and counterfeit repacked goods were recovered from a warehouse there.

Investigation revealed that Akram used to work as a scrap dealer for the last 15 years. He used to buy expired goods from different places at cheap prices and supply it to Omprakash. After this, the old labels were removed and a new expiry date was imposed and the goods were sold in the market as genuine. This game was going on for about two years.

Many famous brand products recovered in the raid

During the police raid, many things like baby care products, hair conditioner, shampoo, sunscreen, energy drink powder, health supplement, antiseptic liquid, body lotion, herbal products and sanitary pads were found.

These included products of many renowned companies. Police officials say that if this consignment had reached the market, people could have suffered serious problems like skin diseases, allergies and food poisoning.

Case registered under several sections, investigation ongoing

The Crime Branch has registered a case against the accused under various sections of BNS and Trade Marks Act. The police are now investigating other people associated with this racket and the entire supply chain. Officials say more arrests may be made soon.
