On the issue of economic crisis and debt of Himachal Pradesh, BJP has made its sharpest attack on the Congress government till date. BJP state co-incharge Sanjay Tandon, in a press conference, compared the functioning of the state government to the saying “Naach na jaane aangan thedha”. He alleged that the Sukhu government was making baseless allegations against the central government to hide its financial mismanagement, wasteful expenditure and wrong priorities.
Government cornered on RDG and debt
Sanjay Tandon clarified that the phasing out of Revenue Deficit Grant (RDG) is not a sudden decision, but it is a pre-determined process of the Finance Commission. He said that the state government knew this, yet instead of increasing alternative sources of income, the government remained idle.
Giving the example of the neighboring state, he said, “Both Himachal and Uttarakhand are hilly and tourism-based states. But while Uttarakhand has strengthened its position by increasing financial discipline and investment, the debt ratio in Himachal has crossed the dangerous level of 40%. This is clearly a gap between policy and intention.”
‘The treasury is being spent on the army of advisors’
Accusing the government of wasteful expenditure, the BJP leader said that on one hand the government is crying about the economic crisis, while on the other hand an army of OSDs, advisors and political appointees has been created. These consultants are being given salaries and cars worth lakhs. He said that the present government has completely failed to take advantage of the central schemes in the ratio of 90:10, whereas the previous BJP government had made maximum use of them.
Union Budget 2026: Foundation of a developed India
After cornering the state government, Sanjay Tandon praised the Union Budget 2026. He envisioned it to make India a developed nation by 2047. Budget told. Enumerating the achievements of the Modi government, he said that India’s economy has increased from $2 trillion to $4.3 trillion and we have become the fourth largest economy in the world. The gross NPA of banks has come down from 11% to below 2%. India’s share in global digital payments is 49%. A provision of Rs 12 lakh crore has been made for infrastructure.
Tandon finally said that the Central Government is doing development with financial discipline, while the Himachal Government is only doing politics of blame, for which the public will answer when the time comes.
