America has removed its missile system from South Korea and sent it to the Middle East. South Korea is not happy with this decision of America. The US is removing parts of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system and other military-related items from South Korea. These systems help in providing security to South Korea from North Korea which is equipped with nuclear weapons. Apart from these, the presence of a large number of American soldiers (28,500) and surface-to-air defense systems are included.
Seongju village of South Korea, where America’s THAAD missile defense system is deployed. This is an important point of war between North Korea and South Korea. In a way, this is being called a victory for Iran, because this has now given North Korea a big opportunity to attack South Korea.
Russia and China are also angry with this decision of America; South Korea is also not happy
This missile defense system protects South Korea from North Korea’s missiles. Due to this, resentment has also been seen between China and Russia. Both countries have termed the decision to remove this radar system as a threat to the security of South Korea. In such a situation, questions are being raised on US President Donald Trump’s commitment to provide security to South Korea. Here, South Korean President Lee Myung had expressed his opposition to this decision of America.
South Korean newspaper JoongAng Daily reported that the country’s lack of ability to protect itself raises concerns. The government should ensure their return after the mission, and efforts should be made rapidly to strengthen its own defense capabilities.
Experts said- North Korea can take advantage
Choi Gi-il, a professor of military studies at Sangji University, told The Guardian that there is a danger that North Korea could take the redeployment of these weapons the wrong way. He can carry out provocative attacks to test our defense system. Apart from this, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un had said in February that he would focus on increasing his country’s nuclear weapons stockpile. He has described South Korea as his biggest enemy. Here, South Korea has said that this decision of America will not affect our capability in any way.
