BCCI congratulates coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar: After Team India became champion in the Under-19 World Cup 2026, BCCI congratulated coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar. Along with this, BCCI has also appreciated the work of veteran VVS Laxman, who was associated with the team as a supporting staff. The Indian team has won the ICC Under-19 World Cup title for a record sixth time.

New Delhi: The Indian team has become champion for a record sixth time in the ICC Under-19 World Cup. India, under the leadership of captain Ayush Mhatre, defeated England by 100 runs in the title match. After this victory, BCCI saluted the hero behind the scenes who spent the last several months preparing Team India for this tournament. BCCI also appreciated the guidance of head coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar and his support staff. The BCCI also made a special mention of the contribution of VVS Laxman, head of the board’s ‘Center of Excellence (CoE)’ for cricket, whose supervision prepared the players for the big matches.
During the tournament, many young players made match-winning contributions with both bat and ball. In the final, teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi created history with an explosive inning of 175 runs in just 80 balls. This was the first score of more than 150 in the knockout match of the Under-19 World Cup. This display of brilliance will be counted among the best individual efforts in the history of the tournament.

Congratulating the team, BCCI President Mithun Manhas said, “Winning the Under-19 World Cup for the sixth time is an extraordinary achievement and reflects India’s strength in age-group cricket. This achievement is the result of a strong player development system, competitive domestic structure, quality coaching and an effective talent identification process. BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla said, “India’s dominance in age-group cricket is no coincidence. This sixth Under-19 World Cup title is a proud moment for Indian cricket and the country.
