On the night of Holi in Darbhanga district, the dispute between two parties escalated into caste tension and stone pelting while playing colors in Lorika village located in Bharulli Panchayat of Singhwada police station area. During the escalated dispute between Sahani Tola and Chaupal Tola, the police vehicle of Dial 112, which reached the spot, was heavily vandalized. About 12 people including a female policeman are said to be injured in this incident. All the injured are being treated. The police took immediate action and arrested eight people, while the other accused are absconding. There is huge tension in the village after the incident. As soon as the information was received, Darbhanga SSP sent a large number of police forces and deployed them in the village.

How did the controversy start?

According to the information received, Anarjeet Sahni, resident of Lorika village, had called Anil Chaupal to his house to play colors. Meanwhile, when Amarjeet Sahni arrived, an altercation started. It is alleged that Amarjeet Sahni used caste based words against Anil Chaupal. On protesting, the dispute escalated and it has come to light that an attack was made with an empty tin of mustard oil. The distance between the houses on both sides is said to be around 150 meters.

Female policeman injured in stone pelting

As soon as information about the fight was received, people of Chaupal community called dial 112 and informed the police. The situation worsened when the police team reached the spot. Some people pelted stones at the Dial 112 vehicle and damaged it, in which a woman policeman was injured. Many people of Chaupal community are also said to be injured.

Forces from several police stations reached the spot

Seeing the seriousness of the incident, police from Singhwara as well as Simri, Kamtaul and Jale police stations reached the spot. Kamtaul’s SDPO Shubhendra Kumar Suman and BDO Vikram Bhaskar also reached the spot. Police have arrested eight people so far. Continuous raids are being conducted to arrest other accused. It is being told that in many houses, male members are locked and absconding.

SDPO Shubhendra Kumar Suman said that the investigation of the case is going on and strict action will be taken against the culprits. At present the situation in the village is tense but under control. As a precautionary measure, police forces are being deployed and camps are being set up and people have been appealed to maintain peace. He told that the villagers have damaged the vehicle of Dial 112, while a female policeman has also been injured.
