
A serious case of dowry harassment, assault and violation of privacy has come to light in Agra. A married woman from the Trans Yamuna area police station has given an application to the Police Commissioner, Agra, accusing her husband and six in-laws of demanding extra dowry and harassing her.
According to the victim, she was married to Kapil Dev on 12 March 2019 as per Hindu customs. In the marriage, her maternal side spent about Rs 15 lakh on gold-Silver Jewellery, furniture, electronic goods, household items, Bullet motorcycle and Rs 5.51 lakh in cash were given. It is alleged that despite this, husband Kapil Dev, father-in-law Suresh Babu, mother-in-law Naval Devi, brother-in-law Jitendra alias Jeetu, brother-in-law Deepchand alias Deepu and sister-in-law Garima are continuously putting pressure on her, demanding a car and Rs 2 lakh in cash as additional dowry.
Brother-in-law installed cameras in kitchen and bedroom
The victim alleges that when her demands were not met, she was mentally and physically tortured. She told that brother-in-law Jitendra alias Jeetu installed CCTV cameras in the kitchen and bedroom of the house, due to which her privacy was violated. When asked to remove the cameras on November 5, 2025, all the accused unanimously abused and threatened to kill.
On December 12, 2025, she was thrown out of the house along with her two small children. The in-laws’ side did not even get the sick child treated, after which the maternal side admitted him to the hospital and got him treated.
Police registered a case on the complaint and started investigation
The police have initiated action under serious sections in the matter. On the basis of the complaint of the victim, a case has been registered under dowry demand and harassment sections and action has been initiated.
Apart from this, in view of the allegations of assault, threats and indecent behavior, it has also been recommended to register a case under Section 115 (2) (intentionally causing hurt), Section 351 (3) (criminal intimidation), Section 352 (assault or use of criminal force) and Section 85 (cruelty by husband or his relatives) of the Indian Justice Code, 2023.
The police have started further action by sending the case to the family counseling center and have said that action will be taken after investigation.
