The tension on the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan has now reached its peak. Last night, Afghanistan launched major attacks on Pakistan, in which the Afghan Defense Ministry claims that more than 55 Pakistani soldiers were killed, many were injured and 19 military posts were destroyed. The Afghan army attacked in 6 sectors and fighting started in 2 new sectors in the morning.
Afghanistan attacked 6 sectors of Pakistan
According to Afghanistan’s Defense Ministry and spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid, the Afghan army launched a massive attack last night in response to Pakistan’s air strikes on February 22. The attacks lasted from 9 pm to 1 am IST and used mortars, artillery, tanks and multi-barrel rocket launchers. Main sectors where the attacks took place:
- Paktia-Khurram Border
- Kunar-Bajaur Border
- Nangarhar-Khyber Torkham Border
- Khost-Miran Shah Border
- Paktika-South Waziristan Border
- Nuristan-Dir Border
More than 55 Pakistani soldiers were killed
Afghanistan says that 203 Mansouri Corps and 201 Khalid bin Walid Corps conducted this operation. Army Chief Muhammad Fasihuddin remained in the Fisrat control room. According to Afghan claim, more than 55 Pakistani soldiers were killed and some soldiers were captured alive.
At 5:30 am, Afghanistan also started attacks on Spin Boldak-Chaman and Helmand-Baramcha border, now fighting is going on in total 8 sectors. Afghanistan says only 8 of its soldiers were killed, 13 were injured and there were no civilian or military deaths in the Pakistani attacks.
War started due to Pakistani attack
These clashes started on 21 February 2026 when Pakistan attacked TTP/ISKP camps in Afghanistan. Afghanistan reported them as civilian deaths. On the night of 26 February, Afghanistan retaliated, then Pakistan carried out an airstrike. This is an old problem on the Durand Line (disputed border), but now it has taken the form of war. There was a ceasefire last year with the mediation of Qatar, but it was broken.
