300 meter long iron bridge washed away
In Dhemaji district of Assam, about 300 meter long iron bridge connecting Kemi and Oyan was washed away due to sudden rise in the water level of Kemi river on Sunday. Due to washing away of the bridge, road connectivity of Kemi-Old Jalom area with Jonai Sadar was completely cut off. According to local people, after the arrival of huge amount of water from Arunachal Pradesh, the water level of the river rose rapidly and within some time the bridge got washed away in the strong current. It is being told that this bridge was constructed only about a year ago.
The breakage of the bridge has increased the problems of the students and farmers of the area. Local people say that this was the main route to reach the school located across the river. Due to the approaching examinations, there is a possibility that the studies of the students will be affected. At the same time, reaching the fields has also become a challenge for the farmers during the farming season. Local people also claimed that at the time of construction of the bridge, they had demanded a permanent concrete bridge instead of iron.
