People were seen suffering due to the scorching heat and humidity in Delhi-NCR on Sunday. The heat was felt more than the actual temperature in Delhi. The maximum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 41.8 degrees Celsius, but the heat index or ‘felt temperature’ reached 50 degrees Celsius.

This month’s first heat wave on Sunday

There was strong sunlight in most areas since morning. The sun became brighter as the day progressed. Due to sunlight, it became difficult for people to leave their homes after 11 o’clock in the day. At one-two o’clock in the afternoon, people also felt the blow of hot wind. However, later there was light cloud movement at some places. Despite this the weather remained hot. Apart from this, the first heat wave of this month occurred on Sunday.

Monsoon is still far away

Along with day, night temperature has also increased in Delhi. The minimum temperature recorded at Safdarjung weather center was 31.1 degrees. This is 3.2 degrees more than normal. This was the hottest night of this month. Earlier on June 27, the minimum temperature was 30.8 degrees, on June 11, the minimum temperature was recorded at 30 degrees. There have been only three days in this month when the minimum temperature was recorded at 30 or more. According to the Meteorological Department, June 27 is the official date of arrival of monsoon in Delhi. Despite this, monsoon is still far away from Delhi and surrounding areas. Its effect is visible on the weather. On the day of monsoon arrival, Delhi’s temperature was recorded the highest in 16 years.

The mercury usually remains below 40 degrees

The usual date of arrival of monsoon is 27 June. Due to monsoon activities being around, the temperature usually falls below 40 degrees by this time. If we look at the data of the Meteorological Department for 16 years, before the year 2026, only in the year 2019, the maximum temperature on June 27 was above 41 degrees.

A new western disturbance will hit on July 2

The weather patterns will remain changeable in Delhi for the next six days. According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature on 29th is likely to be between 39 to 41 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is expected to be between 28 to 30 degrees Celsius. At the same time, the Meteorological Department predicts that a new western disturbance will hit North-West India from July 2. Its effect can be seen late night or morning of June 30. These days the sky will be partly cloudy. There may be light rain with thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening.
