According to the Office of the President of Seychelles, President Herminie addressed the guests at the dinner. He emphasized the long standing strong relations between the two countries. President Herminie said, India has been a trusted and true friend of Seychelles. The people of our country and the Indian community living here also respect India with the same feeling.

What did the Ministry of External Affairs say and who was present at the dinner?

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), during the state banquet, both the leaders reiterated their commitment to further strengthen the strong partnership between India and Seychelles. The dinner was attended by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Speaker of the National Assembly of Seychelles Azrael Ernesta, Foreign and Overseas Affairs Minister Barry Faure, Cabinet members and several other dignitaries.

What did the Seychelles Presidential Office say?

  • The President’s Office said that this year holds special significance for both the countries, as the year 2026 will mark 50 years of diplomatic relations between India and Seychelles.
  • The office further said that this partnership is based on shared democratic values, maritime cooperation and strong ties between the people of the two countries.
  • The celebration of 50 years of Seychelles becoming a Republic and the 50 years of friendship between the two countries makes this visit even more special.
  • The President’s Office also said, Prime Minister Modi’s presence as the chief guest at the National Day celebrations reflects the depth and strength of relations between India and Seychelles.
  • Both countries are now moving towards the next 50 years of partnership.
  • Diplomatic relations were established between India and Seychelles in the year 1976. Since then, relations between the two countries have remained consistently strong and beneficial.

PM Modi’s second state visit to Seychelles

Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Victoria, the capital of Seychelles on Saturday. This is his second state visit to Seychelles. He was given a formal and grand welcome on this historic occasion. Upon his arrival at Mahe Airport in Victoria, President Patrick Harmini warmly welcomed Prime Minister Modi and paid him formal honours. The welcome ceremony was also attended by several dignitaries from Seychelles and members of the Indian community. Colorful cultural programs were also presented during this period, which reflected the strong ties between the people of the two countries.
