
A major accident was averted at Ahmedabad airport on Wednesday evening. Actually, an Air India plane came in front of an IndiGo plane after taking a wrong turn on the taxiway. According to sources, both the aircraft had reached a head-to-head position on the same taxiway. IndiGo said both the planes were stopped at a safe distance and there was no compromise on the safety of passengers or crew.
According to sources, the Mumbai bound Indigo flight was preparing to take off. Meanwhile, the Air India plane going towards the parking bay after landing turned in the wrong direction while taxiing. There was a distance of about 200 meters between the two planes at that time.
Air India admitted its mistake
“We are aware of the incident in which our flight AI-2493 operating from Mumbai to Ahmedabad on June 24 inadvertently took a wrong turn while taxiing after landing,” Air India said in a statement. The airline said there was no impact on the safety of passengers and crew. The aircraft was later towed back to the parking bay.
“The matter has been reported to regulatory authorities and an investigation has been initiated,” the statement said. According to sources, both the aircraft were of the narrow-body A320 category. IndiGo said the departure of its flight 6E-5160 from Ahmedabad to Mumbai was slightly delayed after a plane from another airline accidentally veered in the wrong direction and came into the path of its flight.
What did Indigo say?
“Both the aircraft stopped at a safe distance. Subsequently, the other aircraft was diverted and our flight took off safely and landed safely at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai,” the airline said. According to IndiGo, information about the incident was immediately given to the concerned authorities. Information about the number of passengers on board both the planes was not immediately available.
