There is great relief news for lakhs of people struggling with Delhi’s traffic. After a long wait and many hurdles, the Barapula Phase-3 elevated corridor connecting AIIMS to Mayur Vihar is finally ready. According to the Public Works Department of Delhi Government, this flyover will be opened for the general public by June 30. As soon as it starts, the journey from East Delhi to South Delhi will become much faster and easier.
There will be relief from the jam of Sarai Kale Khan and Ring Road
This project is being considered no less than a relief package for the people who are stuck in traffic for hours every day in Delhi. This elevated flyover, about 3.5 kilometers long from Mayur Vihar Phase-1 to Sarai Kale Khan, will play an important role in reducing traffic pressure. Especially those traveling on Ring Road and surrounding areas will now have to face less heavy traffic jams.
Travel from Mayur Vihar to AIIMS will be signal-free
After the commissioning of Barapula Phase-3 corridor, the time taken to reach AIIMS from Mayur Vihar will reduce significantly. Whereas earlier this route used to take hours, now this distance can be covered in just 15 to 20 minutes. Office goers, patients and students are expected to benefit the most from this.
The project was started in 2014, the delay increased due to many reasons.
The construction work of this flyover started about 9 years ago, but due to slow process at the land acquisition and administrative level, the project could not be completed on time. Due to the delay, its cost also kept increasing. Now the Anti Corruption Branch is investigating this matter to find out why there was such a long delay in the project.
Special arrangements for pedestrians and cyclists also
Separate arrangements have also been made for pedestrians and cyclists in this corridor. This will provide people with the option of safe and convenient transportation. In a busy city like Delhi, such facilities are being considered a big step towards traffic management as well as better urban lifestyle. With the commencement of Barapula Phase-3 flyover, there will be reduction in traffic jams, which will reduce vehicle fuel consumption and pollution will also reduce. It is estimated that about 2 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions will be reduced daily.
