Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with his Norwegian counterpart Jonas Gahr Storey on Monday. The meeting focused on trade and investment, green technology, blue economy and other key areas.

Prime Minister Modi reached Oslo after a two-day visit to Sweden. He was welcomed at the airport by Norwegian Prime Minister Storey and other top leaders of the Scandinavian country. This is PM Modi’s first visit to Norway and also the first visit of an Indian Prime Minister to this country in 43 years.

Who will attend the Nordic-India summit?

Modi and Storey will also jointly participate in the 3rd Nordic-India Summit to be held in Oslo on May 19. This conference will be attended by leaders from India and Nordic countries like Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Sweden and Norway. This conference is a follow-up to the earlier conferences held in Stockholm in 2018 and Copenhagen in 2022. This is expected to give more strategic direction to India-Nordic relations.

PM Modi will meet the King and Queen of Norway

Prime Minister Modi will also meet King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway. Along with this, he will also address the India-Norway Business and Research Summit with the Prime Minister of Norway.

What did the Ministry of External Affairs say on PM’s visit to Norway?

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in a statement issued ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit said that the visit will provide an opportunity to review and further strengthen the progress made in the relations between the two countries, especially in the areas of trade, investment, clean energy and blue economy. The statement said the cooperation will be taken forward by taking advantage of the India-European Free Trade Association (EFTA) Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement. EFTA includes Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland.

India’s role in international security is important: Norway’s PM Storey

Before PM Modi’s visit, the Prime Minister of Norway said that India is the world’s largest democracy and most populous country and it has an important role in climate, technology, trade and international security. He said, this visit reflects the importance of cooperation between India, Norway and the Nordic countries at the time of current global instability. We stand together to promote international cooperation and a rules-based world order.
