The rising prices of petrol, diesel and CNG have spoiled the entire mathematics of the life of the common man. Inflation is no longer limited to petrol pumps, but its effect is visible from kitchen to road. Due to cost of fuel, transportation cost will increase, which is sure to affect the prices of ration, fruits, vegetables and daily essentials. Along with the common man’s pocket, his savings and expectations are also getting affected.
Crowds of people were seen at many petrol pumps including ITO, Laxmi Nagar, INA, Dwarka, Karol Bagh and Mayur Vihar on Friday morning. Many people came to fill oil at the old rate, but expressed displeasure after getting information about the increased prices. Ramesh, a petrol pump employee based at INA, said that in the morning suddenly long queues of vehicles started forming and many customers started raising questions about the increased prices.
Bike driver Amit Sharma, who was filling petrol near Akshardham, said that earlier the monthly expenditure on a bike was around Rs 4,000, which will now go above Rs 5,000. House rent, children’s fees and ration are already expensive, now petrol has added another burden.
employed people are most affected
Lakhs of people in the capital commute to office in private vehicles every day. After petrol reached Rs 97.77 per liter, people have started looking for alternatives. Priyanshu, a software engineer working in Noida, said that going to office by car has started becoming expensive. Amidst traffic and rising expenses, metro now seems to be a better option.
Pressure on CNG drivers also increased
A large number of autos and taxis in the capital depend on CNG. Raju Yadav, an auto driver at the ITO station, said that earlier CNG was considered cheap, but now there is no relief in that either. Whereas app-based taxi driver Mohammad Arif says that the expenses are continuously increasing, but the earnings are not.
