In the last leg of his visit to European countries, the Prime Minister will visit Italy on 19-20 May. There he will meet Prime Minister Georgia Meloni. The two leaders will discuss trade, investment and global issues. The Prime Minister will also visit the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in Rome. The Foreign Ministry said that since 2023, there have been seven meetings between Prime Minister Modi and Meloni.

PM Modi’s visit to Europe comes at a time when the free trade agreement between India and the European Union is to be finalized this year. The main focus of the visit will be on trade, investment, green technology, innovation, startups and enhancing people-to-people contacts. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, relations between the two countries have now expanded beyond traditional trade and agriculture to areas such as semiconductors, defence, maritime cooperation and renewable energy. Apart from addressing the Indian community, the Prime Minister will also interact with top business leaders.

Prime Minister Modi’s first statement on Netherlands tour
After reaching Netherlands, PM Modi wrote on his X handle, ‘I have reached Amsterdam. This visit to the Netherlands comes at a time when the India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) has given considerable impetus to trade and investment relations. This provides an opportunity to further strengthen ties in semiconductors, water, clean energy and other sectors. I will talk to Prime Minister Rob Jetten and will also meet the King, His Majesty William-Alexander and Queen Maxima. The Prime Minister said that he is also looking forward to addressing a community program on the morning of the 16th.
