
Due to the activation of Western Disturbance, the weather pattern is going to change again from Monday in the plains of North-West India and neighboring states. In these areas, from the hills to the plains, there is a possibility of heavy rain, storm and hail at some places. Heat wave may also occur in some states including Gujarat and Rajasthan and mercury may remain high in Jammu and Kashmir. On Sunday, there was heavy rain at some places from Uttarakhand to Odisha and from Bihar to Tamil Nadu and Kerala, while at some places winds blew at a speed of 50-95 km per hour.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), very heavy rainfall (7-20 cm) was recorded at some places over Tamil Nadu and Kerala during the last 24 hours till 8:30 am on Sunday. Thunderstorm with winds reaching 50-95 km per hour occurred at some places over Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Ganga plains of West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and Tamil Nadu. Winds reached 30-50 kmph at some places in Gujarat region, Uttarakhand, East Uttar Pradesh and Vidarbha. At the same time, hailstorm occurred in Western Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand, while severe heat wave-like conditions persisted at some places in Jammu and Kashmir.
A new low pressure area is likely to form in the south-west Bay of Bengal around May 11, which may impact the weather in eastern and southern India. There is a possibility of light rain with thunderstorms and strong winds in Delhi-NCR till May 12, which may provide temporary relief in the temperature. Widespread light to moderate rain, thundershowers and strong winds may occur in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand during May 11 to 14. Light rain has also been predicted in many parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Uttar Pradesh during the same period.
The department has also expressed the possibility of hailstorm in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on May 12 and 13 and in Jammu and Kashmir region on May 11 and 12. A new western disturbance is becoming active from the early hours of 11th May, due to which the impact will be visible in both the hilly and plain areas. There is a possibility of heat wave continuing till May 15 in many parts of eastern and western Rajasthan and Gujarat. Temperatures remained above 40 degrees Celsius in many parts of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Marathwada, Telangana and Rayalaseema.
Thunderstorm alert in South India
IMD has said that there is a possibility of thunder, lightning and strong winds at the speed of 40 to 60 kilometers per hour in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala and Mahe for the next seven days. Heavy rain may also occur at many places. Heavy rain activities are expected to intensify in Tamil Nadu and Kerala on 14 and 15 May. Many parts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Telangana and Karnataka may also experience rain with thunderstorms and strong winds. There is a possibility of heavy rain in Lakshadweep.
Chance of rain in North-East India also
Rain with thunderstorms and strong winds may continue over Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura between May 11 and 15. There is a possibility of very heavy rain in Assam and Meghalaya on 14 and 15 May. There is a possibility of thunderstorm, strong winds and hailstorm at some places in Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal and Sikkim. According to the department, at some places in Bihar, Jharkhand and Gangetic plains of West Bengal, storm can blow at a speed of 50 to 70 km per hour.
Mercury may rise rapidly
According to IMD, by May 15, the maximum temperature in northwest India may increase by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius, while the temperature in central India is likely to increase by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius. The temperature in eastern India may increase by 2 to 3 degrees between May 11 and 14. The temperature remained below normal in some parts of UP, Uttarakhand and Bihar on Saturday. At the same time, the temperature remained above normal in some parts of Assam, Gujarat and Lakshadweep.
