
The report of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) has made shocking revelations regarding sexual crimes against children in UP. According to the report, in 97.5 percent of the POCSO Act cases in the state, the accused were found to be close to the victim children. This means that children are more at risk from close ones, acquaintances and relatives than from consequences.
According to the data, 3671 cases of POCSO were registered in the state in the year 2024. In 3581 of these cases, the accused turned out to be already known to the victims. In only 90 cases the accused were found unknown. The report revealed that 329 accused were family members, while 1595 turned out to be relatives, neighbors or other known persons.
Whereas in 1657 cases, the accused were friends, friends made through social media, live-in partners or people who came in contact with them on the pretext of marriage. According to the report, under Section 4 and 6 of the POCSO Act, cases of 3672 child victims were registered in the year 2024. These include 3571 girls and 101 boys.
