Congress candidate had withdrawn his resignation
Maharashtra Congress President Harshvardhan Sapkal announced that Congress will withdraw its candidate in this by-election. The party had earlier fielded Akash More as its candidate from this seat, who was in the fray against Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar. This decision came at a time when the process of withdrawal of nominations was in the final stages and there was constant political turmoil regarding the elections.
Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar had personally made the same appeal to Sapkal. It is noteworthy that Congress wanted that Ajit Pawar An FIR should be registered to investigate the plane crash and the investigation should be conducted seriously. Therefore, Congress had also made Akash More a candidate against Sunetra Pawar in the Baramati by-election, but later Congress decided to withdraw its candidate.
