EC strict on irregularities in Bengal elections: Decision on re-voting on Falta seat, voting will be held again on May 21 at 285 booths – Ec Directs Fresh Polls Shall Be Conducted In All The 285 Polling Station In 144-falta Assembly

The Election Commission has directed that under the West Bengal Assembly elections, fresh polling will be conducted at all 285 polling stations (including auxiliary polling stations) of 144-Phalta Assembly constituency of South 24 Parganas district on 21 May 2026 between 7 am to 6 pm and the counting of votes will take place on 24 May 2026.

What happened during the elections on 29 April?

The Commission has issued these instructions after the voting held on 29 April 2026. Serious electoral crimes were committed at a large number of polling stations that day. The democratic process was also violated. The Commission has taken these incidents seriously. This step has been taken to ensure fair and free elections. This decision is important to maintain electoral integrity. This is expected to restore the confidence of voters.

Election process and dates

The process of fresh voting will be completed on 21 May 2026. Voting will run from 7 am to 6 pm. After this the votes will be counted on 24 May 2026. The Commission has instructed all concerned officials to make necessary preparations. Security arrangements will also be tightened so that no untoward incident occurs.
