US President Donald Trump has bluntly warned Tehran amid increasing tension with Iran. He said that America has clear options – either find a solution through talks or move forward on the military path.
Asked about the briefing given by Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of US Central Command (CENTCOM), Trump told reporters, “There are options. Do we want to go and completely destroy them and destroy them forever? Or do we want to try to make a deal. Those are the options.”
I don’t want to do that: Trump
Donald Trump added, “From a humanitarian perspective, I wouldn’t want to do that. But this is the choice: Do we want to use overwhelming force and eliminate them or do we want to do something else?”
Trump disagrees on Iran’s new proposal
President Trump expressed dissatisfaction with Iran’s new proposal aimed at ending the ongoing conflict. He has also cast doubt on whether a final agreement can be reached. Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said, “They want to make a deal, but I’m not satisfied with it, so we’ll see what happens.”
He did not elaborate on specific aspects of the proposal he found unacceptable, but expressed uncertainty over Tehran’s will to ultimately agree to a deal.
Claimed disunity in Iranian leadership
Speaking on the South Lawn of the White House, Trump said, “They (Iran) have made progress, but I’m not sure they’ll ever get there.” The US President also pointed to internal divisions within Iran’s leadership, suggesting that disagreements could impact the negotiation process.
He said, “The Iranian leadership is very fragmented. There are two to three groups, maybe four, and it’s a very fragmented leadership. And with that being said, they all want to make a deal, but they’re all messed up.”
