There has been a big increase in the prices of commercial cylinders from May 1 i.e. today. According to sources, the price of 19 kg commercial cylinder has increased by Rs 993 from today. From today the price of 19 kg cylinder in Delhi will be Rs 3071.50. There has been no change in the prices of domestic cylinders.
At the same time, the country’s government oil companies have not made any change in the rates of domestic aviation turbine fuel (ATF) despite the increase in international fuel prices. This decision has been taken with the aim of protecting airlines and consumers from international price fluctuations. Along with this, the retail prices of petrol, diesel and domestic LPG cylinders have also been kept stable.
What did Indian Oil say on the increase?
According to a statement issued by the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), there has been no revision in the rates of major fuels affecting the general public. ATF prices are revised on the 1st of every month based on input costs. While there has been no change in rates for domestic airlines, prices for international carriers have increased.
No change in prices of petrol and diesel
IOC said retail prices of petrol and diesel remained unchanged for consumers, who account for about 90 percent of total consumption. Similarly, there has been no change in the prices of domestic LPG (14.2-kg cylinder) for about 33 crore consumers. There has also been no increase in the prices of kerosene distributed under the Public Distribution System (PDS).
Overall, about 80 percent of petroleum products have remained unchanged in prices, ensuring stability for most consumers. Oil companies pointed out that price revisions are limited to select industrial sectors, which account for a relatively small share in consumption and are subject to regular monthly adjustments based on global benchmarks.
Increase in prices of commercial cylinders
The statement also said that the prices of bulk and commercial LPG cylinders (less than 1 percent of total consumption) have been revised. Additionally, wholesale diesel and ATF prices for international aviation operations have been increased, although specific details were not given.
Also, a decline in prices of petroleum products of about four percent has also been observed, reflecting fluctuations in global markets. Overall, prices of about 80 per cent of products remained unchanged, four per cent declined and 16 per cent – mainly industrial fuels – saw an increase in prices.
