The special MP-MLA court of Varanasi on Wednesday acquitted all the six accused, including Ayodhya’s Gosainganj MLA Abhay Singh and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Legislative Council member Vineet Singh, in the case of attack on former Jaunpur MP Dhananjay Singh in Nadesar area of Varanasi in 2002.
MLA Abhay Singh’s advocate Varun Pratap Singh said that special MP-MLA court judge Yajurved Vikram Singh, giving the benefit of doubt, acquitted MLA Abhay Singh, Legislative Council member Shyam Narayan Singh alias Vineet Singh and other accused – Sanjay Singh Raghuvanshi, Satendra alias Bablu Singh, Sandeep Singh alias Pappu and Vinod Singh.
What was the case against Abhay Singh?
According to Singh, the prosecution’s allegation was that on October 4, 2002, former Jaunpur MP and then MLA Dhananjay Singh was returning from Varanasi to Jaunpur in the evening with his associates, when Abhay Singh, who was already present near Taksal Cinema Hall in Nadesar area, got down from the car with his associates and with the intention of killing Dhananjay Singh, fired indiscriminately at him.
Singh told that the prosecution had said that in this case, Dhananjay Singh’s ‘gunner’ had opened fire in self-defence, when the police arrived, Abhay Singh and his companions ran away.
The prosecution had claimed that many people including the then MLA Dhananjay Singh, his security guard Vasudev Pandey, driver Dinesh Kumar Gupta were injured in this attack.
Dhananjay Singh had filed a case
Singh said that in this case, Dhananjay Singh had filed a named case against Abhay Singh and others in the Cantt police station. The police had filed a charge sheet in the court on 14 December 2002 against Abhay Singh, Sanjay Singh, Satendra Singh alias Bablu, Sandeep Singh alias Pappu, Vinod Singh and Vineet Singh in this case.
Meanwhile, Abhay Singh expressed happiness over the court’s decision and said that he was wrongly accused in this case. He said that now he has got justice from the court, for which he is thankful.
Vineet Singh said that there was no evidence against him in this case, that is why the court has acquitted him.
