Factory workers are mainly divided into three categories. These include unskilled workers, such as peons, cleaners, sweepers, security guards, messengers, etc. Apart from this, semi-skilled workers like assistant accountants, orderlies, etc. are included. Apart from this, skilled personnel like clerks, typists, office assistants, inventory management staff, data entry operators, accountants, etc. are hired. Above this is placed a highly-skilled workforce, which includes head assistants, senior accountants, computer operators, research and development (R&D) staff, office supervisors, warehouse-in-charges, etc.
1. West Bengal
The details of minimum wage of West Bengal have been provided mainly distributed among shops and commercial establishments. In these, minimum wages for workers ranging from unskilled to highly skilled have been mentioned.
According to the notification issued on January 9, 2026, the minimum wage rates in West Bengal are applicable from January 1, 2026 to June 30, 2026. These standards have been set on the basis of two zones.
Zone A: Thermal power plant areas including Municipal Corporation, Municipality, Notified Area, Development Authority and Township areas.
Zone B: Rest of West Bengal.
