Political rhetoric during the Assam Assembly elections has now reached personal allegations and counter-allegations. Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) candidate Kunki Choudhary’s mother, Sujata Gurung Choudhary, has filed a complaint with the National Commission for Women (NCW) against Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
In the complaint filed on April 11, Sujata Chaudhary alleged that Chief Minister Sarma made false, baseless and malicious statements against her during the election campaign. He says that the purpose of these statements was to tarnish his image and to politically target his daughter Kunki Chaudhary.
What did Himant claim?
In fact, during the election campaign on April 2, Himanta Biswa Sarma had claimed that Sujata Gurung Chaudhary shared posts related to beef consumption on social media, made objectionable comments against some communities and supported Pakistan. He had also said that he would take action against the parents of Kunki Chaudhary.
Sujata Chaudhary rejected the allegations
Rejecting these allegations, Sujata Chaudhary said that the photo shown by the Chief Minister is misleading. According to her, this photo was taken at the International Church of Cannabis (ICC) in Denver, America, where the object she was holding was not only meat but a pillow. He has also attached a letter from ICC Director Steve Burke, which confirms the same.
What was said in the complaint?
In the complaint, she also said that following these allegations, her personal photographs, including those of her minor son, are being viral on social media without permission. Due to this he has faced online trolling, harassment and character assassination.
Sujata Choudhary alleged that several unknown people and social media handles have also shared morphed photographs and AI generated content to malign her image, causing mental stress to her family and damage to her reputation.
What did you demand from the Women’s Commission?
She has demanded from the National Commission for Women to take immediate cognizance of this matter, to remove misleading and objectionable content from social media, and to investigate and take legal action against those responsible. He has also appealed to ensure the privacy and safety of himself and his minor son.
Sujata Chaudhary also clarified that she is a private citizen and has no direct connection with politics. She has come into controversy only because her daughter Kunki Chaudhary is contesting from Guwahati Central seat.
