In Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, which is known as ‘World Class City’, the safety of women seems to be assured by Ram. The viral video of openly molesting a pregnant woman in broad daylight has now created a political uproar in the state.
The gross negligence of the police and not registering the FIR till 18 days after the incident has given a big issue to the opposition. Opposition parties are now making sharp political attacks on the Bhajanlal Sharma government regarding the poor law and order situation in the state.
Politics heated up on law and order
The case of molestation on a moving bike had not yet cooled down when this new incident has exposed the claims of women’s safety. The opposition alleges that criminals are fearless in the capital and the police are sleeping. Questions are being raised that when a pregnant woman is not safe on the streets of the capital and the police does not take any action on her complaint for 18 days, then what is the meaning of the claims of good governance and law and order in the state? From social media to roads, question marks are being raised on the functioning of the government.
What was the hair-raising video?
In fact, at around 6 pm on March 25, a pregnant woman was passing through the street while talking on the phone in Malviya Nagar of Jawahar Circle police station area. Then a bearded man coming from behind caught hold of the woman. The woman screamed, abused and tried to make the accused run away, but the accused picked up a piece of brick, due to which the woman had to run away in fear.
Gross negligence of police, action taken after embarrassment
The surprising thing is that the very next day of the incident, the victim along with her family had given a written complaint at Jawahar Circle police station. But instead of registering the case, the police just did the trick and put the matter on hold. Now after 18 days, when the video went viral and political trouble started, the police woke up from its Kumbhakarni sleep. A case was quickly registered under serious sections. Duty officer ASI Mahesh Chand and head constable Angad Ram, who were negligent, have been suspended, while station in-charge (SHO) Ashutosh Singh has been given a charge sheet.
Accused identified, but still absconding
After political pressure, the police have come into action, but the accused is still out of custody. Police investigation has revealed that the name of the accused is Raj Gurjar and he is a resident of Madhya Pradesh. He works in a spa center in Malviya Nagar and has been accused of molesting women in the past also. At present, many police teams are busy searching for him, but the stain this incident has placed on the policing and law and order of the capital, politics does not seem to be stopping.
