The political atmosphere regarding law and order in Rajasthan is becoming heated. On one hand, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma himself is holding a long meeting with the officials, while on the other hand the Congress Party is raising sharp questions on the government. The situation is such that the issue of law and order has now become a major center of political conflict.
Amidst the increasing incidents in the capital Jaipur in recent times, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has adopted a strict stance. He held a marathon meeting with the officers at the police headquarters for about five and a quarter hours. During this, he clearly said that any laxity regarding crime will not be tolerated.
The CM directed the officials to hold regular public hearings, take immediate action on every complaint and be more active in preventing crimes. Besides, senior officers have been asked to strengthen monitoring by giving them responsibility for different districts. The government claims that it is completely serious about law and order and the situation is under control.
Congress counterattacked, government completely failed
At the same time, Congress has described these steps of the government as mere show off. Party’s chief whip and Adarsh Nagar MLA Rafiq Khan alleged that the government has completely failed on the law and order front.
Rafiq Khan says that incidents like molestation of a foreign woman, misbehavior with a girl on a moving bike and public assault have come to light in Jaipur itself. His argument is that if this is the condition of the capital, then the situation in remote areas can become even worse.
The situation will improve not through meetings but through strict action.
The Congress leader says that nothing will be achieved just by holding meetings. The government will have to take strict action at the ground level. Action against negligent officers and strict punishment against criminals is necessary.
He also alleged that in many cases, even FIRs of the victims are not being registered and efforts are being made to downplay the crime through statistics. According to him, the government is trying to hide the real situation.
Demand to call a special session of the assembly
Congress has intensified the demand for calling a special session of the Assembly on this entire issue. Rafiq Khan challenged and said that if the government is claiming that crimes have reduced, then a special session of at least three days should be called and an open discussion should be held on this.
He said that the truth will come out after the debate in the Assembly and milk will turn into water. Congress alleges that in the last two and a half years the government has tried to avoid serious discussion on law and order.
At present the government and the opposition are at loggerheads regarding law and order in Rajasthan. While the government is claiming that crime has reduced compared to the previous tenure and the situation is under control, the opposition is completely rejecting these claims.
