UP News: Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh regarding weaver dominated areas and this business Yogi Adityanath Has said a big thing. CM Yogi has said that weavers are not just carriers of tradition but are the strong base of the state’s economy. In such a situation, ensuring stability of their income, respect and livelihood is among the top priorities of the state government.
CM Yogi said, “At present, the weavers are facing challenges like rising cost of raw materials, lack of design and modern technology and limited market access. The solution to these problems is possible not only through planned assistance, but by developing a strong and coordinated system. In this direction, the Chief Minister gave instructions to prepare a result-oriented, cluster-based new action plan.”
Will benefit from cluster model
It was informed in the review meeting of the Handloom Department on Thursday that about 1.99 lakh weavers are working in the state and Uttar Pradesh is at sixth position in the country in this field. The state is a leader in the production of carpets, rugs and mats, while the state also has a strong presence in products like bedsheets, furnishing and blankets. The total handloom export of the country in the year 2024-25 was ₹ 1178.93 crore, in which the contribution of Uttar Pradesh was ₹ 109.40 crore (about 9.27 percent).
The Chief Minister directed that clusters should be developed by identifying weavers-dominated areas so that production, quality and marketing can be integrated. He clarified that these clusters should not be limited to just production but should develop into a complete value chain, where design, branding, packaging and market access are ensured in a single structure.
Emphasis on connecting design and market
In the meeting, aspects like cluster selection, baseline survey, preparation of Detailed Project Report (DPR), effective implementation and continuous monitoring were discussed in detail. The Chief Minister said, “A limited number of weavers in each cluster should be organized and developed as registered units, thereby promoting collective production and marketing. Also, these clusters should be linked with modern technology, advanced equipment and skill training, so that the quality and competitiveness of the products is improved.”
Emphasizing on strengthening design and marketing, the Chief Minister said, “The success of the product is possible only if it is in line with the market demand. He directed to effectively implement institutional mechanisms like ‘Designer-cum-Marketing Executive’ and ‘Design House/Sourcing-Buying Agency/Export House’. This will ensure improvement in the quality of products, access to larger markets and increase in the income of weavers. The Chief Minister also stressed on the expansion of digital platforms, e-commerce and branding. Asked to pay special attention, so that weavers can be directly connected with consumers.”
Focus also on reducing electricity expenses
In the meeting, the Chief Minister also expressed the need for better efforts to reduce the electricity bills of power loom weavers. On the instructions of the Chief Minister, the Handloom Department and the Power Corporation will jointly prepare an action plan in this regard. Laying special emphasis on promoting solar energy, the Chief Minister said, “This will reduce the electricity cost of weavers and will provide them long-term relief. He directed to prepare an effective action plan in this direction.”
The Chief Minister said, “The weaver community of Uttar Pradesh is an important basis of the rich tradition, employment and economy of the state. Therefore, such a balanced, transparent and practical policy should be prepared, which will provide real relief to the weavers, give new momentum to the industry and the traditional weaving of the state can get a strong base. Rakesh Sachan, Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Khadi and Village Industries, Silk Industry, Handloom and Textile Industry was present in the meeting.”
