In Dehradun, a mother fought a big battle with the police to get justice for her 18 year old son. This case pertains to Lalita Chaudhary, resident of Vishwanath Enclave on Sahasradhara Road. Whose son Kshitij Chaudhary died in a road accident.
On 16 February 2024, Kshitij was walking on foot in front of a shop in Premnagar area. Then a speeding dumper crushed him and the driver fled from the spot. He was taken to hospital in critical condition, but died the next day. While the family was devastated after the death of the son, the attitude of the police was also very disappointing.
Police refused to register FIR
According to media reports, the family members allege that the police initially refused to register the FIR. The report was filed after a lot of pressure and pleading. But even during the investigation the police did not make any special efforts. When Lalita asked the investigator about the action, he clearly said that it is not easy to find a vehicle without a number and he does not have any ‘magic wand’.
Ultimately, the police filed the Final Report (FR) in the case without arresting the accused. But one mother did not give up. The pain of losing her son and the hope for justice made Lalita stronger. He himself started investigation by going to the streets, scanned the footage of CCTV cameras installed nearby and collected information about many suspicious vehicles.

Strict action will be taken against the accused- SSP
After continuous hard work for about one and a half years, Lalita located the dumper and its driver. He identified the accused as Ankit Chauhan with full evidence. After this, he reached the SSP office and handed over all the evidence and demanded a re-investigation. Taking this entire matter seriously, SSP Pramendra Singh Dobal has ordered a re-investigation of the case. He has assured that strict action will be taken against the accused.
