Political turmoil has intensified regarding the Baramati Assembly by-election in Maharashtra. NCP (SP) leader Rohit Pawar on Monday appealed that this election should be conducted unopposed and other candidates should not file their nominations. Actually, this by-election is taking place after the death of former Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar in a plane crash in January. His wife and current Deputy CM Sunetra Pawar is going to file nomination today. Many senior leaders will be present with him on this occasion.

Before nomination, Sunetra Pawar offered prayers at the Hanuman temple in Kanheri and also paid tribute at the memorial site of Ajit Pawar. His sons Jai and Parth Pawar were also present with him.

Congress made Akash More its candidate

Rohit Pawar wrote on social media, ‘We want the Baramati elections to be unopposed. I appeal to all interested candidates not to file nominations. He also said that if elections are held, the public will consider it to be Ajit Pawar’s fight and Sunetra Pawar will win with a record number of votes.

However, in the meantime Congress has made the election contest interesting. The party has declared its state secretary Akash More as its candidate. Akash More is the son of former MLC Vijay More and comes from the Dhangar community. Congress has made it clear that it is not in favor of unopposed elections. Party spokesperson Atul Londhe said that if an FIR is registered in Ajit Pawar’s plane crash, the party may reconsider its stand.

Baramati seat has been Ajit Pawar’s stronghold

At the same time, efforts are being made by other leaders to convince potential candidates not to contest the elections. NCP leader Dattatreya Bharne met OBC leader Laxman Hake and appealed to him to stay away from the elections. It is noteworthy that Baramati seat has been Ajit Pawar’s stronghold for a long time, where he won with record votes several times. In such a situation, this time’s by-election is being considered very important from both emotional and political point of view.
