Rajya Sabha on Thursday passed the Public Trust (Amendment Provisions) Bill, 2026, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi described as a major breakthrough for the general public and business. PM Modi said that this bill strengthens the trust-based system for citizens and works to eliminate old rules and laws. This bill will result in faster disposal of cases and reduce the burden of trials by decriminalizing minor crimes.

In a post on social media platform X, PM Modi further said that a thorough consultation process was followed in preparing the bill and all suggestions were taken into consideration. Let us tell you that through this bill in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, 784 provisions have been amended in 79 central laws, so that small crimes can be simplified, both business and life can be made easier and harassment of people can be stopped.
