Efforts are underway to free the national capital Delhi from mountains of garbage. In this series, Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Taranjit Singh Sandhu reached Bhalswa landfill site on Monday (30 March) and took stock of the progress made in the ongoing efforts of ‘bioremediation’ i.e. the process of biological treatment of waste. During this, he said that the pace of work has increased in recent years, but a lot still needs to be done.

“A lot of progress has been made over the past year, but there is still much work to be done,” Sandhu said, according to the Post. According to the post, the Lieutenant Governor advised officials to explore emerging global technologies and international standards in the field of waste management and consult experts, so that the work can be expedited.

Instructions to dispose of new waste also

Along with this, the post said that the Lieutenant Governor directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to dispose of not only the old waste lying at the landfill site, but also the new waste that is being dumped continuously. It said that Sandhu stressed on taking preventive measures to avoid incidents of fire at landfill sites amid the onset of summer.
