Changes in Bihar Congress, initiative to strengthen the organization, appointment of new DCC president in many districts

Congress has taken concrete steps by making some changes to strengthen the party in Bihar. The party has appointed new presidents of District Congress Committees for 53 organizational districts as part of a major organizational restructuring. After the party’s weak performance in the 2025 assembly elections, new presidents of District Congress Committees have been appointed in 53 districts. This step has been taken under the party’s ‘Organization Creation Campaign’, the objective of which is to strengthen the organization.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge approved the proposal to reorganize organizational districts and immediately appoint new DCC presidents. In this process, AICC observers conducted a district-level review, interacted with party workers and stakeholders and submitted a detailed report.

Final decision after personal discussion with supervisors

After this, the senior leadership held personal discussions with the supervisors and took the final decision. The recent weak performance of the party has made this restructuring necessary. In the 2025 assembly elections, Congress contested 61 seats, but won only six seats. The situation remained the same in 2020, when the party won only 19 out of 70 seats.

Internal challenges in Congress are also serious!

Internal challenges are also serious. Many Congress MLAs participated in cross voting during the Bihar floor test in February 2024. Apart from this, three out of six Congress MLAs remained absent in the 2026 Rajya Sabha elections, due to which BJP’s Shivesh Kumar Ram defeated RJD’s Amarendra Dhari Singh. For all these reasons the party leadership decided to strengthen the organization at the district level.

New DCC presidents appointed in many districts

According to the list from the office of Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal, new DCC presidents have been appointed in several districts. Major appointments include Mohammad Masoom Raza (Araria), Mohammad Kaif (Arwal), Anand Shankar Singh (Aurangabad), Jitendra Singh (Banka), Shiv Prakash Garibdas (Begusarai), Praveen Singh Kushwaha (Bhagalpur), Dr. Shridhar Tiwari (Bhojpur), Pankaj Kumar Upadhyay (Buxar), Mithilesh Chaudhary (Darbhanga Rural), Dr. Jamal Hasan (Darbhanga Urban), Santosh Kumar (Sherghati-Bodhgaya), Rajneesh Kumar (Gaya) and Om Prakash Garg (Gopalganj).
