Ratna Debnath, mother of the RG Kar Medical College rape and murder case victim, started her election campaign in the West Bengal Assembly elections from Thursday. Ratna Debnath has been made the BJP candidate from Panihati seat. Ratna Debnath said on Thursday that she will contest the elections. She said that I will ensure women’s safety, women’s protection and women’s empowerment.

BJP candidate Ratna Debnath said she pledged to get justice for her daughter. Debnath described his candidature from Panihati as a victory for the people. He criticized the state government for failing to protect basic rights.

I will not win the election, the people of Panihati will win: Ratna Debnath

Ratna Debnath had said a day earlier on Wednesday, “I will not win the elections; The people of Panihati will win. The people of Panihati have forgotten to protest. The government has taken away people’s education, health and basic rights. I want to ensure the safety of women. I want to say that everyone should get equal rights.

He further said, “You know that my daughter was martyred while on duty at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Since then many incidents have happened here. I want to start my election campaign from Thursday. I want to tell people that I am zero now, I have nothing. That’s why I don’t want anything. I would request them to support me.

Appeal to give chance to BJP

The BJP candidate said, “It will not be difficult to contest the elections.” We have already won a big battle. We will tell the people of the state that you have seen this government for the last 15 years. Give me and my party a chance for the next five years. I will get justice for my daughter’s death; No one can stop this.” Targeting Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, he said that all the evidence has been destroyed at the behest of the CM.
