Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on the opposition Congress. He claimed that no local native will vote for the Indian Congress in the upcoming assembly elections in the state. Let us tell you that voting is to be held on all 126 assembly seats of Assam in a single phase on April 9.
Speaking to reporters in Guwahati, the Chief Minister said that the situation in Assam has completely changed under the leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He said that today people are seeing a new Assam based on its strong culture and heritage. According to Sarma, everyone in the state is with the BJP except Bangladeshi infiltrators. He said that no local native will support the Indian Congress.
The Chief Minister further criticized Congress and said that Congress can never form a government in India. He sarcastically said that whenever Congress forms a government, it could be in Pakistan or Bangladesh. He questioned that when Congress has no future in India, why would anyone want to join that party. Sarma’s comments come amid increasing political tension in the state ahead of the upcoming elections.
This time the main contest in Assam is between the ruling NDA and Congress. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will contest from his traditional seat Jalukbari. The Election Commission has announced that votes will be cast on April 9 and counting of votes will take place on May 4. BJP is eyeing to gain power for the third consecutive time.
If we look at the figures of the last election, in 2021 the BJP-led alliance (NDA) had won 75 seats, out of which the BJP alone had got 60 seats. At the same time, Congress and its allies had to face a heavy defeat and were reduced to only 16 seats. In the last elections, 2.2 crore voters of the state had participated enthusiastically and 86.2 percent voting took place.
