Preparations have started to bring Harish’s 13 years of silent suffering to the big screen. A Mumbai writer-producer has expressed his desire to make a biopic on Harish’s struggle.

Harish’s body will be donated
After the Supreme Court’s decision, Harish was admitted to the palliative care ward of AIIMS, Delhi, where he was freed from unbearable pain after 10 days. Now his organs will be donated. The decision of organ donation taken by Harish’s father Ashok Rana has emerged as an inspiration for the society. It was extremely difficult for the family to see their son in this condition for 13 years.

In July 2010, Harish took admission in Civil Engineering at Chandigarh University. In the year 2013, he was a final year student. Meanwhile, on the day of Rakshabandhan in August 2013, he fell from the fourth floor of the PG while talking to his sister on mobile phone. Seriously injured Harish was immediately admitted to PGI Chandigarh. Later in December 2013, he was admitted to LNJP Hospital in Delhi, where doctors diagnosed him with quadriplegia.
In this condition, his hands and legs became completely inactive and he was forced to stay in bed for the rest of his life. Due to Harish’s unbearable pain and physical disability, the parents appealed to the Delhi High Court for euthanasia, which was rejected by the High Court on 8 July 2025. After this the family filed a petition in the Supreme Court. About eight months later, on March 11, 2026, the Supreme Court gave permission for euthanasia (passive euthanasia) to Harish.

8 July 2025 Delhi High Court rejected the plea for euthanasia.
The Supreme Court approved euthanasia on 11 March 2026.
On March 14, Harish Rana was taken from Ghaziabad to AIIMS in Delhi.
Harish Rana breathed his last at AIIMS on 24 March.
