A civilian employee posted at an Air Force base in Assam in Rajasthan has been arrested on charges of espionage. Officials said that the accused was passing on sensitive information related to the Indian Air Force to Pakistani agents. Additional Director General of Police (Intelligence Department) Prafulla Kumar said on Sunday that Sumit Kumar (36), resident of Lahurpar, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, has been arrested.

The police officer said that the accused is currently working at Chhabua Air Force base in Dibrugarh, Assam. He looks after the civil work while holding the post of MTS at the Air Force base.

Pakistan was sending confidential information

Prafulla Kumar said that investigation has revealed that Sumit Kumar, misusing his position, used to collect confidential information related to the Air Force base and sent it to the handlers active in Pakistan through social media. He told that after the arrest of Jaisalmer resident Jhabra Ram in January 2026, information was received regarding accused Sumit Kumar.

Horoscope of the accused scrutinized in Prayagraj

The Intelligence team of Rajasthan has taken this action. After this, Rajasthan Police contacted Prayagraj Police and investigated the horoscope of the accused. However, the local police is not ready to say anything in the matter. Officials said the accused was arrested in a joint operation of Rajasthan Intelligence Department and Air Force Intelligence Department. During interrogation, he revealed that he was in touch with Pakistani intelligence agents since 2023 and was sharing confidential information in exchange for money. Police have registered a case in this regard under the Privacy Act, 1923 and relevant provisions of the Indian Justice Code. Further investigation is underway to expose the extensive espionage network.
