The court has granted interim bail on medical grounds to former councilor Tahir Hussain, accused in the 2020 North-East Delhi riots. He had sought bail citing health reasons for treatment of inguinal hernia. Karkardooma Court has directed the Delhi Government to ensure his surgery within 15 days.

Tahir Hussain had filed a petition in Karkardooma court citing inguinal hernia. He needs early surgery and special care. It was said that it was necessary to stay out of jail to prevent infection and recovery. The court ordered the Delhi government to ensure complete care of Hussain after his surgery, both in the hospital and jail.

This order has come on the application for interim bail. In February 2020, 53 people were killed in the riots in North-East Delhi. This violence had erupted during protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act. Investigating agencies have described it as a well-planned conspiracy, in which Tahir Hussain is the main accused. His regular bail was also rejected in January 2026.
